Post LCSW Billing for Palliative Care

Any information regarding billing Medicare Part B for LCSW interventions would be very much appreciated...What are the options if a patient does not meet DSM ICD-9 criteria, but either the patient and/or their family would still benefit from support? Also, what about Treatment plans?

Where are you doing your work? Hospital, office, home-based? Medicare reimbursement varies according to the setting.

I am very interested in this topic as well. It seems that when I researched it several years ago, social work services generally provided in our in- pt Palliative care setting, did not meet the qualifications of reimbursement. For example, most of our Goals of care conversations were seen by CMS as case management and not psychotherapy. In that case it did not seem appropriate to utilize a mental health diagnosis and bill for psychotherapy.
Has anyone beenn doing this? What has been the response from CMS? Thanks Nona LCSW,ACHP-SW
