Post Independent Palliative Care Medical Group

Several local docs working in various capacities in Palliative care in our community are considering forming an independent palliative care medical group. We would continue to provide medical director and clinical services to hospice, inpatient palliative care service and newly developing outpatient service but do so as a more coordinated group and contract as a group rather than as individuals. Is anyone aware of other independent palliative medical groups that have done this?

There are certainly independent hospice & palliative care medical groups out there, whose work pre-dated the hospital-based palliative care movement but now includes that as one component. Three of the largest which I'm aware of are Capital Hospice in northern VA (http://www.capitalhospice.org/), Hospice & Palliatice Care of the Charlotte (NC) Region (http://www.hospiceatcharlotte.com/index.cfm), and Hospice of the Bluegrass in Lexington KY (http://www.hospicebg.com/). Each of them contracts with local hospitals as well as providing hospice care. Let me know if this helps or not.

Any luck with setting up your Palliative Care medical group?
I am now embarking on the same idea. NPI number, credentialling, contracting....all seems overwhelming.
Any advice?
